2017

In 2017 I was funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland to make new work, building on the themes of memory and family history that emerged in the disappeared. It was shown in North Down Museum, among the museum’s own collections.

I had been investigating a family archive and wanted to develop work that made art from the archive and viewed the archive as art. I was interested, as ever, in the documents and texts, printed and handwritten, and the old photographs, which included plenty of experimental home-printing. The eclectic nature of the collection also appealed. Though the archive told particular and personal stories, these shed light on more general and collective stories, such as Quakerism in Ireland and Belfast’s linen industry.
